DIRI BACKS IJAW LANGUAGE APP, ORDERS SCHOOL CONTESTS

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has expressed support for efforts to promote and preserve the Ijaw language as the state marks its 30th anniversary.
Diri announced his backing for the development of a new Ijaw language application designed to make learning and understanding the language easier, particularly among younger people.
The governor also directed the organisation of Ijaw language competitions in schools across the state. He said the initiative would encourage pupils and students to learn, speak and appreciate their indigenous language.
Diri stressed the importance of preserving the Ijaw language and culture, particularly at a time when younger generations are increasingly exposed to other languages through education, technology and social media.
He said government would continue to support initiatives that promote Bayelsa’s cultural identity and strengthen the connection between young people and their heritage.
The governor’s remarks formed part of activities marking Bayelsa at 30, with the state using the anniversary to reflect on its development while also highlighting its cultural heritage and the need to preserve it for future generations.
