TAKE ACTION ON FLOODING, EROSION, SOLUDO URGES ANAMBRA RESIDENTS

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has urged residents to take collective action against flooding and gully erosion following recent incidents that have affected communities across the state.
The call came after heavy rainfall triggered flooding in several parts of Anambra, with a schoolchild reportedly missing after a vehicle carrying pupils was caught in floodwaters. Nine people, including seven schoolchildren and two adults, were reportedly rescued, while efforts were made to locate the missing child.
Soludo urged residents to take flood warnings seriously and avoid actions that could worsen the situation. He stressed the importance of keeping drainage channels and waterways clear, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
The governor also called for greater community responsibility in tackling environmental challenges, including the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage channels. Blocked waterways can restrict the flow of rainwater and increase the risk of flooding in vulnerable communities.
The state government has advised residents living in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant, avoid crossing flooded roads and waterways, and move to safer locations whenever their surroundings become dangerous.
The recent flooding has renewed concerns about drainage, erosion and road conditions in parts of Anambra. Authorities have urged residents, parents and motorists to prioritise safety during heavy rainfall and work with relevant agencies to respond quickly to emergencies.
