Speaking on behalf of the party, Lagos SDP Chairman Femi Olaniyi said the ideals championed by Abiola remain relevant to Nigeria’s democratic journey and should continue to guide political leaders and institutions.
Olaniyi noted that Abiola’s contributions to democracy and national development serve as an enduring inspiration for those committed to building a more inclusive, prosperous, and united Nigeria. He stressed the need for political actors to uphold transparency, accountability, and fairness in the electoral process.
The party also called for credible elections that reflect the will of the people, arguing that strong democratic institutions are essential for sustainable development and national stability.
According to the SDP chairman, governance at all levels should prioritize the welfare of citizens through policies that address economic challenges, improve social services, and promote equal opportunities for all Nigerians.
He further urged citizens to embrace national unity and actively participate in the democratic process, maintaining that collective efforts are necessary to achieve the vision of a better Nigeria envisioned by Abiola.
The remarks were made as part of activities commemorating Nigeria’s democratic progress and the enduring impact of Abiola’s role in the country’s political history.
