Court Grants NDLEA Interim Forfeiture of 17 Drug-Laden Containers

A Federal High Court has granted an interim forfeiture order in favour of the (NDLEA) for 17 containers found to contain illicit drugs.

The agency said the containers, seized during recent operations, were loaded with opioids valued at over ₦33.6 billion.

According to the NDLEA, the court order allows the government to temporarily take control of the containers pending the conclusion of investigations and legal proceedings.

Officials described the development as a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, noting that the seizure deals a significant blow to organised criminal networks.

The agency reiterated its commitment to intensifying efforts against the importation and distribution of illegal substances across the country.

Legal experts explained that interim forfeiture is a critical step in preventing suspects from reclaiming seized assets while investigations are ongoing.

The case is expected to proceed in court, where a final determination will be made regarding the permanent forfeiture of the containers.

The development highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to combat drug trafficking and protect public health and safety.
