NGO Seeks Greater Support, Inclusion for Neurodivergent Children

A non-governmental organisation (NGO) has called for stronger support systems and greater inclusion for neurodivergent children in Nigeria, urging government agencies, schools, and communities to address stigma and create opportunities for their development.
The organisation said children with conditions such as autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), dyslexia, and other neurodevelopmental differences often face discrimination, limited access to quality education, and inadequate support services.
According to the NGO, fostering inclusive learning environments and expanding access to specialized care are critical to helping neurodivergent children reach their full potential and participate meaningfully in society.
The group also emphasized the need for increased public awareness to combat misconceptions and encourage acceptance of neurodiversity within families, schools, and workplaces.
It called on policymakers to strengthen existing frameworks and introduce measures that guarantee equal opportunities, improved healthcare access, and educational support for affected children.
The NGO further urged parents, educators, and community leaders to work together in promoting understanding, inclusion, and respect for neurodivergent individuals.
The appeal comes amid growing advocacy for disability rights and inclusive policies aimed at ensuring that every child, regardless of their neurological differences, has access to the support and opportunities needed to thrive.
