Court Adjourns El-Rufai’s Trial Over Co-Defendants’ Absence
A court has adjourned the trial involving former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over allegations of abuse of office and fraud following the absence of some co-defendants in the case.
The proceedings, which were scheduled to continue with the hearing of the matter, could not progress as expected after the co-defendants failed to appear before the court. Consequently, the presiding judge ordered an adjournment to allow all parties involved to be properly represented during the trial.
The case centres on allegations of abuse of office, financial misconduct, and other related claims brought against the former governor and other defendants. However, all accused persons are presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
During the session, legal representatives addressed the court on issues relating to the absence of the co-defendants, prompting the judge to fix a new date for the continuation of proceedings.
The adjournment means that substantive hearing on the allegations will resume at a later date when all parties are expected to be present before the court.
The case has attracted significant public attention due to El-Rufai’s prominence in Nigerian politics and his tenure as governor of Kaduna State. Observers are closely monitoring developments as the legal process continues.
The court reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent trial in accordance with the law, while all parties await the next hearing date.
