Boko Haram Overruns Borno Military Base, Kills Soldiers and Vigilantes
Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly overrun a Nigerian Army base in Mandaragirau, under the 25 Brigade of Sector 2 in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, killing several security personnel and vigilantes.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, saw heavily armed terrorists storm the military formation and engage troops in a fierce gun battle. Security sources said five soldiers and three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) lost their lives while defending the base.
The assailants were said to have launched the assault with significant firepower, overwhelming personnel stationed at the facility before causing extensive damage during the raid.
The incident has renewed concerns over the activities of insurgent groups in parts of the North-East, despite ongoing military operations aimed at degrading terrorist networks in the region.
Local sources reported that security forces have since intensified efforts to track the attackers and prevent further incursions into nearby communities.
Military authorities are yet to issue a detailed official statement on the attack, while residents and stakeholders have called for stronger security measures and additional support for troops engaged in counterinsurgency operations.
The latest assault underscores the persistent security challenges facing Borno State and highlights the continued threat posed by insurgent groups operating in the region.
