INEC Okays Wike PDP Bloc, Court Bars Turaki

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally recognised a faction of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The decision, announced on Monday, is seen as a significant development in the ongoing leadership crisis within the opposition party, which has been grappling with internal divisions in recent months.

In a related development, a court order has reportedly barred Adamu Waziri Turaki—popularly known as Turaki—from parading himself in a position linked to the disputed party structure, further complicating the situation.

INEC’s recognition of the Wike-aligned faction is expected to have far-reaching implications for the party’s internal balance of power, particularly as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of future elections.

Party stakeholders have expressed mixed reactions to the development. While supporters of Nyesom Wike have welcomed the move as a step toward stability and legitimacy, others have raised concerns about its potential to deepen divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party.

Legal experts say the court’s intervention underscores the complexity of the dispute, as multiple factions continue to seek judicial backing for their claims to leadership positions within the party.

As the situation unfolds, political observers note that the outcome of the crisis could significantly shape the future of the Peoples Democratic Party and its readiness for upcoming electoral contests.

Further developments are expected as both legal and political processes continue to play out.
