Fatalities Drop to 80 as Traffic Offences Rise in Ogun — FRSC

Abeokuta, Nigeria — The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun Sector Command, has reported a reduction in road crash fatalities to 80 in the first quarter of 2026, even as traffic offences recorded a significant increase during the same period.

According to the Command, the drop in fatalities reflects improved enforcement, public awareness campaigns, and better emergency response to road accidents across the state. Officials noted that ongoing safety initiatives have contributed to saving more lives despite persistent road risks.

However, the Corps expressed concern over the sharp rise in traffic violations, which include speeding, dangerous driving, overloading, and non-compliance with road safety regulations. The increase in offences, authorities say, remains a major challenge to achieving safer roads.

The Sector Command emphasized that stricter enforcement measures and continuous sensitization of motorists will be intensified to curb reckless driving and ensure compliance with traffic laws.

The FRSC urged road users to adhere strictly to safety guidelines, warning that violations not only endanger lives but also undermine efforts to reduce road accidents and fatalities in the state.
