I Was Lured With Food, Money” — Baba Ijesha Rejects Paedophile Label
Convicted Nollywood actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has rejected the label of paedophile, claiming in a recent interview that he was lured into a situation that led to his conviction.
The actor, who was previously sentenced over charges related to sexual offences involving a minor, stated that he was set up and enticed with food and money before the incident that resulted in his arrest and trial. He insisted that the narrative surrounding the case had been misrepresented.
Baba Ijesha was convicted in 2022 by an Ikeja Special Offences Court in Lagos after being found guilty on several counts related to the assault of a minor. The case attracted widespread public attention and sparked conversations about child protection and justice in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
Despite the court ruling, the actor maintained in the interview that he did not deliberately commit the crimes for which he was convicted. He argued that the circumstances surrounding the incident were misunderstood and that he was manipulated into the situation.
The case originally came to public attention after allegations were raised by comedienne and actress Princess Oluwadamilola Adekoya, who accused Baba Ijesha of sexually assaulting a minor in her care.
Following investigations and court proceedings, the court sentenced the actor to prison, a decision that was widely welcomed by child rights advocates who said it demonstrated the importance of holding offenders accountable.
However, Baba Ijesha’s latest comments have once again stirred debate on social media, with many Nigerians reacting to his claims while others continue to emphasize the importance of protecting minors and respecting judicial decisions.
The controversy highlights ongoing discussions about justice, accountability, and child protection within Nigeria’s entertainment sector and society at large. ⚖️
