FG Gives N4bn Each to 12 Universities for Engineering Upgrades
The Federal Government has approved the disbursement of N4 billion each to 12 Nigerian universities to upgrade engineering workshops and procure modern training equipment under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) intervention programme.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening engineering education, improving practical learning and aligning university training with global technological standards and industry needs.
According to officials, the funding will support the rehabilitation of existing laboratories, acquisition of advanced machinery and enhancement of research facilities to better equip students with hands-on technical skills.
The government said the intervention forms part of broader efforts to revitalise tertiary education and address longstanding gaps in science, technology and engineering training across Nigerian universities.
Education stakeholders noted that improved engineering infrastructure would help produce graduates capable of driving innovation, industrialisation and national development.
Authorities also emphasised that beneficiary institutions are expected to ensure transparency and accountability in the utilisation of the funds to achieve the intended impact.
The move comes amid renewed focus on strengthening Nigeria’s human capital development and boosting local capacity in critical sectors of the economy.
