Beijing, March 2, 2026 — China has called for an immediate ceasefire and renewed diplomatic engagement to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, warning that continued hostilities risk further destabilizing the region and worsening humanitarian conditions.

In a statement released on Monday, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged all parties involved in the conflict to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue over military escalation. The ministry emphasized that political solutions and negotiations remain the only viable path toward lasting peace.

“China calls on relevant parties to immediately cease hostilities, protect civilians, and return to the track of diplomatic negotiations,” a foreign ministry spokesperson said during a regular press briefing in Beijing. Officials stressed the importance of preventing the conflict from expanding into neighboring regions, which could have broader global security and economic consequences.

China also reiterated its support for multilateral efforts led by the international community, including humanitarian assistance initiatives and mediation efforts aimed at reducing tensions. The ministry highlighted the urgent need to ensure safe delivery of aid to affected populations and to uphold international humanitarian law.

The call comes amid growing international concern over rising casualties, displacement of civilians, and the risk of regional escalation. Several global powers and international organizations have similarly appealed for de-escalation, though diplomatic progress has remained limited.

China stated that it is willing to work with the United Nations and other stakeholders to promote peace talks and facilitate constructive dialogue between the parties involved. The government reaffirmed its position that stability in the Middle East is critical not only for regional security but also for global economic recovery and energy stability.

Analysts note that China has increasingly positioned itself as a diplomatic actor in Middle Eastern affairs, advocating negotiated settlements and emphasizing non-interference alongside conflict mediation.

As fighting continues, international pressure is mounting for a coordinated ceasefire agreement that could open the door to broader peace negotiations and long-term political solutions.
