Bauchi Appeals for Additional 2026 Hajj Slots Amid Surging Demand

The Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has formally requested an increase in Hajj slots for the 2026 pilgrimage, citing growing interest from intending pilgrims and the full utilization of its 2025 allocation.

Officials of the board said the appeal was driven by what they described as “exceptionally high demand,” with registration numbers reportedly exceeding available spaces. According to the board, all slots assigned for the 2025 Hajj were filled, leaving a significant number of prospective pilgrims on waiting lists.

The board emphasized that Bauchi State continues to witness rising participation in the annual pilgrimage, reflecting both population growth and increased awareness of Hajj opportunities. Authorities argued that additional slots would help accommodate qualified applicants and ease pressure on future allocations.

In its communication to Saudi authorities, the board highlighted its record of efficiently managing previous pilgrimages, noting improvements in logistics, welfare services, and compliance with guidelines. It maintained that Bauchi has consistently ensured the proper use of allocated slots.

Stakeholders within the state have welcomed the move, expressing hope that a higher quota would reduce competition for spaces and offer more residents the opportunity to perform the religious obligation.

The request comes as preparations gradually begin for the 2026 Hajj, with Nigerian state pilgrim boards and national authorities expected to engage Saudi officials on quota considerations, operational planning, and regulatory requirements.
