India’s Rouble Nagi Crowned World’s Best Teacher, Wins $1 Million Prize

Indian educator and social innovator Rouble Nagi has been awarded the prestigious $1 million Global Teacher Prize, earning international recognition for her unconventional approach to education through community art initiatives.

Nagi, originally known for her work as an artist, gained global attention for transforming underserved urban communities by converting slum areas into vibrant open-air learning spaces. Her projects integrate art, creativity, and basic education, providing children with access to learning environments in locations where traditional school infrastructure is limited or absent.

Judges praised her efforts for redefining how education can be delivered in marginalized communities, highlighting the social impact of her programs. By blending artistic expression with literacy and life skills, Nagi’s model has helped engage thousands of children who might otherwise remain outside the formal education system.

The Global Teacher Prize, often described as the “Nobel Prize for teaching,” honors educators who make exceptional contributions to the profession and society. Nagi’s selection reflects a growing emphasis on innovation, inclusivity, and community-driven solutions in global education.

Education advocates say her work demonstrates how low-cost, locally adaptable strategies can help bridge gaps in access to learning, particularly in densely populated, low-income environments. Her initiatives have also inspired similar projects led by volunteers and grassroots organizations across India.

Speaking after receiving the award, Nagi emphasized that the recognition belongs to the communities and children who participated in the projects. She reiterated her commitment to expanding creative learning programs and supporting educational opportunities for disadvantaged youth.

Her achievement marks a significant moment for India’s education sector, drawing attention to alternative teaching methods that extend beyond conventional classrooms.
