Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Condemns Kwara Killings, Says Protecting Lives Must Be Non-Negotiable

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, senator representing Kogi Central, has condemned the recent attacks in parts of Kwara State that left scores dead, describing the violence as “unacceptable and deeply troubling.”

At least 75 residents were killed on Tuesday when suspected terrorists attacked the Nuku and Woro communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state. Several houses were also set ablaze during the assault, forcing many residents to flee their homes.

Reacting to the incident, Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed sympathy with the affected families and communities, stressing that the protection of lives and property must remain a top priority for government at all levels. She said the recurring attacks on rural communities underscore the urgent need for more decisive action to address insecurity across the country.

“The continued loss of innocent lives is heartbreaking and cannot be normalised,” the senator said, calling on security agencies to ensure those responsible are brought to justice and to strengthen measures to prevent further attacks.

Her comments came a day after Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, confirmed the killings and said residents of the affected communities were attacked for refusing to bow to extremists. The governor described the incident as a heinous act and assured that the state government was working with security agencies to restore calm and protect lives.

The attacks have sparked renewed concern over the safety of communities in parts of north-central Nigeria, with calls from political leaders and civil society groups for a coordinated response to curb the growing threat posed by armed groups
