Bandits Attack: Soldiers, Forest Guards Take Over Kwara Communities as Death Toll Rises to 40

Security forces have taken over Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly bandits’ attack that left at least 40 people dead.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday evening, threw the affected communities into panic as armed men reportedly stormed the areas, shooting sporadically and setting houses ablaze. Residents said many victims were killed while attempting to flee, while others were attacked in their homes and on farmlands.

In response to the violence, soldiers of the Nigerian Army, alongside operatives of the Forest Guards, have been deployed to the communities to restore order and prevent further attacks. Security patrols have also been intensified in surrounding villages and forest routes believed to be used by the assailants.

Local sources confirmed that the death toll has continued to rise as bodies were recovered from nearby bushes and farmlands, while several residents sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at health facilities in the area. Many villagers have fled to neighbouring communities in search of safety.

Community leaders have called on the federal and state governments to sustain the security presence and launch a comprehensive operation to flush out bandits from the forests surrounding Kaiama, warning that continued attacks could worsen the humanitarian situation.

Meanwhile, authorities have urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations and manhunt operations continue.
