–Calabar Highway: Investors Allege Non-Payment of Compensation, Petition Senate

Some Nigerian investors in the Diaspora have petitioned the National Assembly over the alleged non-payment of compensation for properties and investments demolished during the construction of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway.

The petition, coordinated by Mrs. Stella Okengwu, was submitted to the Senate on behalf of affected investors whose assets were reportedly demolished at Okun Ajah in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.

According to the petitioners, several residential and commercial investments were pulled down to make way for the highway project, but compensation promised by relevant government agencies has allegedly not been paid, months after the demolitions.

The group said the affected properties were legally acquired and duly documented, adding that repeated appeals to authorities responsible for the project had not yielded results.

“The failure to pay compensation has left many investors financially distressed and undermined confidence in government-led infrastructure development,” the petition stated.

The investors urged the Senate to intervene by investigating the matter and compelling the appropriate agencies to ensure prompt payment of compensation in line with existing laws governing compulsory land acquisition.

The Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway is a flagship infrastructure project of the federal government, aimed at boosting connectivity, trade, and economic development across coastal states.

Efforts to obtain comments from the Ministry of Works and other agencies involved in the project were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
