Abia Gov appoints Daniel Eke as new Sporting Director of Enyimba FC

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has approved the appointment of Daniel Eke as the new Sporting Director of Enyimba Football Club, as part of efforts to reposition the Aba-based side and restore its status as an elite force in African football.

The appointment was announced on Monday by the Abia State Government, which said Eke’s selection followed a strategic review of the club’s structure and long-term ambitions. Enyimba, Nigeria’s most successful club with two CAF Champions League titles, has struggled in recent seasons to maintain its dominance on both domestic and continental fronts.

Governor Otti said the decision reflects his administration’s commitment to professionalising sports management in the state and returning Enyimba to winning ways. He charged the new sporting director to build a competitive team, strengthen youth development, and establish a clear football philosophy aligned with international best practices.

Daniel Eke is a former football administrator with experience in player recruitment, team management and sports development. He is expected to oversee Enyimba’s football operations, including technical planning, scouting, and coordination with the coaching crew.

Speaking after his appointment, Eke expressed gratitude to the governor and pledged to work with all stakeholders to reposition the club. He said Enyimba’s history and fan base demand excellence, adding that his focus would be on creating a sustainable structure capable of competing successfully in Nigeria and across Africa.

Enyimba FC, founded in 1976, remains one of Africa’s most recognisable clubs. The latest appointment is seen as part of broader reforms by the Abia State Government aimed at reviving sports infrastructure and restoring pride in the state’s flagship football institution.
