FG Distributes Free Seeds, Fertiliser to Cross River Farmers
The Federal Government has commenced the distribution of free seeds and fertiliser to farmers in Cross River State as part of efforts to boost food security, stimulate economic growth, and reduce poverty.
The intervention, carried out under ongoing agricultural support programmes, is aimed at increasing farm productivity and cushioning smallholder farmers from rising input costs. Beneficiaries include crop farmers across various local government areas of the state.
Officials overseeing the exercise said the initiative is designed to ensure timely access to quality inputs ahead of the planting season, improve yields, and strengthen local food supply chains. The government noted that agriculture remains a critical driver of employment and economic development, particularly in rural communities.
Farmers who received the inputs expressed appreciation, saying the support would lower production costs and help them expand cultivation. Many noted that access to fertiliser and improved seed varieties would significantly improve harvests and incomes.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting farmers nationwide through targeted interventions, mechanisation support, and access to markets, stressing that sustained investment in agriculture is essential for national food sufficiency and inclusive growth.
