North Korea Fires Ballistic Missile Toward Sea of Japan

North Korea has fired what appeared to be a ballistic missile toward the Sea of Japan, according to Japan’s Ministry of Defense.

The launch, detected on Tuesday, marks Pyongyang’s second missile test this month, further heightening tensions on the Korean Peninsula. Japanese defense officials said the projectile was launched from North Korea’s territory and flew in the direction of the Sea of Japan, also known as the East Sea, before falling outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.

Authorities in Tokyo said they are closely analyzing the missile’s trajectory and specifications, while maintaining close coordination with the United States and South Korea. No immediate reports of damage or injuries were recorded.

The latest test comes amid ongoing concerns over North Korea’s weapons development programme, despite repeated warnings and sanctions from the international community. Analysts say the continued launches underscore Pyongyang’s push to advance its ballistic missile capabilities and exert pressure during a period of strained regional security.

Japan’s government has condemned the launch, describing it as a threat to regional peace and stability. Further details are expected as defense officials complete their assessments.
