Carrick Begins Derby Reign in Style as Man United Beat City 2–0

MANCHESTER, England — Michael Carrick’s interim reign as Manchester United manager began on a high note on Sunday as the Red Devils secured an emphatic 2–0 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League derby at Old Trafford.

United delivered a disciplined and energetic performance, with goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu sealing a statement win against their city rivals. The result lifted the mood around Old Trafford following recent instability and handed Carrick an impressive start on the touchline.

Mbeumo opened the scoring in the first half after capitalising on a swift counter-attack, calmly finishing past City goalkeeper Ederson. United doubled their advantage after the break when Dorgu struck from close range following sustained pressure, sending the home crowd into celebration.

Carrick set up his side with a compact defensive shape, frustrating Pep Guardiola’s City, who dominated possession but struggled to break down United’s organised backline. The hosts remained clinical on the break, making the most of their chances.

Speaking after the match, Carrick praised his players’ commitment and focus, describing the victory as a reward for hard work and belief. “The lads gave everything today. It’s a great result, but we’ll stay grounded,” he said.

The derby win offers a morale boost for United as Carrick looks to stabilise the club during his interim spell, while City will reflect on a rare off day despite controlling large spells of the contest.
