SEMA Disburses N150m Flood Relief Funds to Sokoto LGs
The Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has commenced the disbursement of ₦150 million in flood relief funds to victims across 15 local government areas of the state, as part of efforts to support recovery and rebuild affected communities.
The disbursement targets households impacted by recent flooding, which destroyed homes, farmlands, and livelihoods in several parts of the state. According to SEMA, the funds are intended to provide immediate relief, assist displaced residents, and help beneficiaries return to normalcy.
Speaking during the exercise, officials of the agency said the intervention underscores the state government’s commitment to easing the hardship faced by flood victims. They noted that the distribution process was designed to be transparent and inclusive, ensuring that affected persons in the identified local governments benefit from the assistance.
SEMA also disclosed that, beyond the financial support, relief materials such as food items and basic household needs would continue to be distributed where necessary. Beneficiaries were urged to make prudent use of the funds to address urgent needs, including shelter repairs and livelihood restoration.
The agency reaffirmed its readiness to respond swiftly to emergencies and called on residents to adhere to safety advisories, especially during the peak of the rainy season, to minimize the impact of future flooding.
