Let Us Make the Right Decision Ahead of 2027, Wike Warns PDP

Abuja — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to urgently resolve its internal crisis, warning that failure to do so could cost the party dearly in the 2027 general elections.

Wike gave the warning while addressing party stakeholders, stressing that the PDP must learn from past mistakes if it hopes to remain relevant on the national political stage.

According to the former Rivers State governor, the ongoing internal wrangling within the party has weakened its structure and damaged its chances of mounting a strong opposition.

“We must make the right decision this time around,” Wike said. “If the PDP continues on this path of division and personal interests, it will be very difficult for the party to compete effectively in 2027.

He urged party leaders to put personal ambition aside and focus on unity, discipline and internal democracy, noting that unresolved disputes have continued to undermine the party’s credibility before Nigerians.

Wike also warned that the electorate is becoming increasingly aware and would not support a party that fails to put its house in order.

The FCT minister, who played a key role in the 2023 elections, emphasized that leadership crises and lack of cohesion were major factors that contributed to the PDP’s loss of power at the federal level.

His comments have sparked reactions within the party, with some members agreeing on the need for urgent reforms, while others insist that reconciliation efforts are already underway.

As the countdown to the 2027 general elections begins, political observers believe Wike’s remarks highlight the growing pressure on the PDP to reorganize and present a united front if it hopes to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
