Makinde Challenges Fayose to Prove Alleged N50bn Payment from Tinubu

Ibadan — Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dared former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, to provide evidence backing his claim that he received N50 billion from President Bola Tinubu in connection with the recent explosion in Ibadan.

Makinde, who described the allegation as false and malicious, said Fayose’s claim was a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and tarnish his reputation.

The governor spoke on Monday while reacting to comments credited to Fayose, who alleged that the Federal Government paid Makinde N50 billion following the deadly explosion that occurred in parts of Ibadan earlier this year.

“I challenge Fayose to come out with proof of the N50 billion he claimed I collected from President Tinubu,” Makinde said. “If he has any evidence, he should present it to Nigerians. Otherwise, he should desist from spreading falsehood.”

Makinde maintained that the Oyo State Government has been transparent in its handling of the aftermath of the explosion, including relief efforts and compensation for victims.

He stressed that no such payment was made to him by the Federal Government, adding that all funds received by the state are properly documented and accounted for.

The governor also accused Fayose of playing politics with a tragic incident, urging him to act responsibly as a former public office holder.

Fayose had earlier alleged in a media interview that Makinde received N50 billion from President Tinubu in connection with the January explosion in Ibadan, a claim that has since generated controversy and public debate.

As of the time of filing this report, Fayose has yet to provide evidence to substantiate his allegation.
