Army begins multi-agency security training in Taraba

The 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, has launched a comprehensive capacity-building training programme for security personnel in Taraba State.
The two-week programme, inaugurated on Monday, is aimed at equipping operatives with critical skills in weapon handling, basic first aid, and advanced driving and vehicle maintenance.
Flagging off the exercise in Jalingo, the state capital, Governor Agbu Kefas lauded the initiative as a vital step in reinforcing the state’s security architecture amid mounting regional threats.
This training marks a crucial step towards enhancing the security architecture of our beloved state. It underscores the importance of preparedness, collaboration, and continuous learning among our security agencies,” Kefas said.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Barrister Gebon T. Kataps, the governor pledged the state government’s continued support for security agencies, stressing the importance of inter-agency cooperation in addressing emerging security challenges.
The governor also commended Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, for his foresight and leadership in initiating the training programme.
In his remarks, Brigadier General Uwa said the training aligns with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, COAS, which seeks to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-motivated and combat-ready force capable of fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities in a joint and multi-agency environment.
“This training is designed to enhance operational readiness by focusing on key areas such as weapon handling, basic first aid, and advanced driving and maintenance skills. These competencies are essential in improving our effectiveness, responsiveness, and survivability in the field,” General Uwa explained.
He emphasised that skills such as first aid and vehicle maintenance could be the difference between life and death during operations and would boost mobility and adaptability across the security landscape.
The brigade commander also appreciated the state government for its continued support, particularly acknowledging Governor Kefas’ logistical contributions, including the donation of vehicles to aid operational activities.
“I remain sincerely grateful to the Executive Governor for his magnanimity. I also extend my appreciation to the SSG and other state officials who have played supportive roles in helping us meet our mandate,” Uwa said.
He further commended other security agency heads for their collaboration, noting that the existing synergy has played a major role in the successes recorded so far.
The training programme, which includes participants from multiple security agencies and military units within the state, is expected to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and bolster the ability of operatives to confront evolving security threats in Taraba and beyond.
