Nigerian legion donates N10m to 160 widows in Kaduna

The Nigerian Legion, Kaduna State chapter, has donated N10 million to 160 widows in the state.

The money was a pledge redeemed by Gov. Uba Sani to the Nigerian Legion on the 2025 emblem launching day.

The acting Chairman of the state’s chapter of the legion, retired Maj. Baren Danjuma, disclosed this while briefing the press in Kaduna on Saturday.

Danjuma said the briefing marked the commencement of activities for the

‘Widows/Disabled Ex-service Men’ welfare package.

He explained that the fund from the governor was meant for the upkeep and

welfare of widows, orphans and other dependentd of the deceased and disabled ex-service men.

According to him, it is the responsibility of the legion to cater for their welfare through the means of generating funds

during and after the launching of Armed Forces Remembrance Day in the bid to ameliorate their suffering.

He disclosed that this year in particular, there was a total of 160 beneficiaries of the widows, orphans and physically-challenged ex-service men, cutting across the 23 local government area in the state.

Danjuma tanked Sani for the invaluable gesture, while soliciting for it’s sustainance towards ameliorating the plight of the members of the legion.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries from Sabon Garia LGA, retired Warrant Officer Lawal Muhammad, who is also the council’s Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, said the donation would go a long way in supporting their families.

He commended the legion for working tirelessly to support the ex-service men and their families.

Muhammad lamented that the organisation had to rely on donations from the government and well-meaning individuals to carry out its activities.

Also speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries from Kachia LGA, retiref Maj. Daniel Maikasa, the LGA’s Chairman of legion, expressed gratitude to Sani for redeeming his pledge to it.

Maikasa emphasised the importance of continued support from the government, organisations, and individuals to sustain the welfare programme of the legion.

He urged the government and the public to prioritise their welfare and provide opportunities for their empowerment.
