Don’t Distract Tinubu With Politics Of 2027 –Presidency to Opposition Leaders

3 min read

Special Adviser on Public Communication to the President, Daniel Bwala, has cautioned against dragging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu into the politics of the 2027 succession.

He made this statement on Wednesday while speaking with journalists at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretariat.

Bwala emphasised that President Tinubu is currently focused on fulfilling his promises to Nigerians and is not distracted by political discussions surrounding the next general elections. He stated, “Well, for now, Mr President is focused on governance, delivering on the mandate and the promises to the Nigerian people, and he has refused to be distracted by political talk ahead of 2027.”

He went on to highlight that the president’s priorities are centred on addressing the challenges facing the Nigerian people, such as alleviating hunger, driving agricultural revolution, and addressing everyday problems. “He is very focused on issues that concern the Nigerian people, to make sure that people come out of hunger, to make sure that agriculture brings about the expected revolution, and to make sure that our people are able to deal with their everyday problems.”

Bwala also noted that the time for politics has not yet come, but when it does, they will be ready for it. “So, the time for politics is not yet ripe, and when that time comes, we are going to be ready for everyone.”

He further clarified that President Tinubu’s potential bid for a second term is guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution.

“Mr President’s agenda, which is working well, is what will naturally endear Nigerians to vote him for a second term. Mr President is more than eminently qualified constitutionally to contest for a second term in office, and God willing, if God gives Mr President life and health, we do hope that Mr President will run his course as provided by the constitution.”

In response to claims by some opposition leaders that the ruling party in Nigeria would suffer a fate similar to that of the government in Ghana, which lost the election to its main rival, Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Public Communication to the President, asserted that the Nigerian electorate is impressed with the performance of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Bwala acknowledged the comparative analysis but stressed that the situation in Nigeria and Ghana differs significantly. “Given comparative analysis, that is not to say I am blaming the government of Ghana, but there are divergent applications of government policy,” he remarked.

He pointed out that recent events in Ghana and economic indicators show a different set of circumstances in the two countries. “If you have been following events in Ghana, you will see that over the last year, and if you follow the indices, you find out that it is not the same thing happening in the two countries,” Bwala explained.

He emphasised that President Tinubu’s efforts to redirect Nigeria’s economy are on the right path, and he remains confident about the country’s future. “What Mr. President is doing in redirecting the economy in the right direction, Mr. President is very confident.”

Bwala dismissed any concerns about the ruling party losing the upcoming election, stating that Nigerians are paying attention to the government’s efforts to improve their lives. “The idea of the ruling party losing the election—that will not happen, because Nigerian people are seeing what the administration is doing. Nigerian people only care about what they are confronted with every day,” he said.

He further noted that Nigerians are less concerned with the president’s background or appearance but are focused on practical matters affecting their daily lives. “They don’t actually care whether you are white or black skin or whatever; as long as what matters to them on their dinner table is dealt with, Nigerian people will always stay with you.”

Bwala concluded by affirming that President Tinubu’s leadership has garnered commendations from across the country. “That is why Mr. President is receiving commendation from every part of the country.”
