Seyi Tinubu: PDP Talks Tough, Insists Lagos Won’t Serve Father, Son

2 min read

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has firmly rejected the notion of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, succeeding Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in 2027.

The PDP expressed strong disapproval over the recent endorsements of Seyi Tinubu by various groups, including the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders and the Friends of Seyi Tinubu, who have described him as a visionary leader.

Hakeem Amode, the PDP spokesperson in Lagos, emphasized that citizens would resist any attempts to impose Seyi as the next governor.

“Lagos will not serve him,” Amode declared, stressing that the governorship position is not a hereditary right. He questioned the propriety of treating such a role as an inheritance, stating, “Governorship is not a gift.”

Amode further argued that the endorsement of Seyi Tinubu ignored the fact that many Lagosians did not support his father during the last presidential election, suggesting that the people would similarly reject his son.

The Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths also condemned the idea of a family member of the Tinubu dynasty taking over the governorship, calling for the governorship position to remain in the hands of genuine Lagos indigenes.

In contrast, the All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the conversation about the 2027 elections as premature.

Seye Oladejo, the APC spokesperson in Lagos, urged people to focus on supporting the current government.

He said, “We should rally behind the governor and the president now to advance development,” rejecting discussions on the next election as a distraction.

Prominent APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe also weighed in, labeling the push for Seyi Tinubu as unnecessary. “Ruling Lagos is not a job for amateurs,” he said, suggesting that the push to elevate Seyi Tinubu is part of a broader strategy to undermine President Bola Tinubu.
