The presidency has debunked the rumours that claimed President Bola Tinubu asked Yemi Cardoso to resign as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

This is according to the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Via a post on his official X handle on Tuesday, Onanuga described the report as a bundle of lies.

“It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign,” Onanuga said.

The report had said that President Tinubu issued the directive to Cardoso before departing for China, despite efforts by influential Yoruba leaders to keep him in the position.

Recall that the CBN governor had come under criticism for his inability to address the ongoing economic challenges and stabilise the Naira.
