KEKE, D1 IN COLD WAR

Before now, they used to be the cynosure of all eyes at every event, move around like Siamese twins; share the same type of fashion accessories, cruise around town with the same brand of new wonder-on-wheels, run the same business and in addition one is hardly seen without the second around. Together, they build the most influential entertainment outfit ‘Primetime Entertainment,’ an outfit that revolutionized Nigerian hip-hop music market.

For a decade or more, they ruled the entertainment industry like colossus, their names were always mentioned in referential tones and with all sort legends such as ‘world famous’ attached to their names. That is the story of the godfathers of Nigeria’s hip hop music, and popular radio/TV personalities, Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye.

But sad enough, that friendship that was the envy of all and sundry is gradually losing its steam.

According to findings, the problem started four years ago when a business contract nearly tore them apart. But with maturity and discernment, both sides were able to bury their hatchet and carry on with their friendship. But despite moving on as business partners, their distorted relationship has never remained the same again. Though Dayo is still with Primetime as a co-presenter, sources said he is only doing that to protect his stake in the joint business. Dayo in recent times has diversified into hospitality business, having opened a personal hotel in Lagos and this we heard did not go down well with Keke as Kenny is fondly called who believes Dayo did not carry him along in the process. The intensity of their cold war was noticed when Keke shunned the opening ceremony of the hotel under the pretence of being busy with office engagements. Keke is currently the MD of AIT, his in-law’s media outfit.

And far from not attending the D1’s hotel launch as Dayo is widely known, in recent times, the duo who always arrive event together in the same convoy now enjoy moving individually. This was evident few weeks ago when both arrived separately at a black and white gig held in Lagos.

Though both sides have continued to debunk all the news milling around their deteriorating friendship, it is all evident that all is not well between them.
