Africa’s Finest Storm Lagos For #GTBank FSHNWKND
2 min readIt was two days of pure magic and truly the gathering of Africa’s finest at the recently concluded #GTBankfshnwknd, which held last weekend in Lagos.
Welcoming millions of visitors from all over Africa over two days, the event featured an arts and crafts village, master classes, shopping booths and the ultimate- the runway shows.
Day One, which was Saturday, kicked off with four masterclasses anchored by TY Bello, Rebecca Osei-Baidoo, Shiona Turini and runway coach extraordinaire, J Alexander who sent the participants into a frenzy when he took to the runway after speaking.
In the evening, six designers showcased their latest collection; Tracy Reese, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi, Taibo Bacar, Mimi Plange, Ituen Basi and Meena, who had the best collection of the day.
Day Two kicked off with more masterclasses from Danessa Myricks, Giles Deacon, Sophie Hedley, Vanessa De Luca and Vanessa Kingori.
The crowd waiting to get in on the second day was unbelievable and sadly, many people were stranded outside as the runway arena was filled to bursting. Another six designers took to the runway and it was as if the best was saved for last. The audience was wowed from the start and were sent into a screaming frenzy when Laquan Smith came on. Much as his designs were edgy and pushing the boundaries, some were a tad unrealistic such as the thigh high boots and the gowns and skirts with underwear high slits. Still, it was a very beautiful and different collection.
Ejiro Amos Tafiri wowed the audience truly, as did Weizdhurm Franklyn, Millie Collines and Ladunni Lambo. However, the best of the night was Julien MacDonald. Reeling out design after design, from casuals to formal to swimwear, it was only proper they closed the show with standing applause from the appreciative audience at the end.
Massive Fireworks display rounded up the event and guests were left stunned by the beauty and splendour. It was a great event and participants and guests are already looking forward to next year.
