Gunmen Ambush, kill Three NDLEA Officials
1 min readGunmen ambushed and killed three officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State. The victims are Onwumere Nicholas, Peter Ebun and Abdulrahman Musa.
The attack occurred about 8.30p.m. on Friday when six officers of the agency were on duty at one of their posts around the main gate of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Okene.
A witness, Mr. Joel Abraham, said three other NDLEA officials escaped unhurt. Abraham disclosed that the hoodlums ran away with two Lar rifle guns belonging to the victims.
The state NDLEA Commandant, Alhaji Idris Bello, yesterday confirmed that three of his men who were on patrol were killed on Friday evening.Bello added that NDLEA and sister agents in the state had put all necessary plans in motion to arrest the perpetrators.
The commandant said the gunmen came on foot and that the incident occurred close to the main gate of the Federal College of Education, Okeene. He explained that the NDLEA officers were on duty alongside their three other colleagues when the gunmen struck.
Bello said that the officers died on the spot, while the three other colleagues escaped unhurt. He said that the gunmen collected the rifles of the officials. Kogi State government had in August established a Forward Operation Base in Okene in partnership with the Nigerian Army to check kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes. However, the initiative has yet to yield the desired result, according to observers.
