2027: PDP Will Safeguard Nigeria’s Democracy — Chieftain
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the party is committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy ahead of the 2027 general elections, pledging to rebuild internal unity and forge strategic alliances to present a strong opposition.
Speaking at a party stakeholders’ meeting on Monday, the PDP leader said the party had begun consultations across the country aimed at strengthening its structures and restoring public confidence. According to him, the PDP remains focused on democratic values, the rule of law and credible elections as Nigeria prepares for another electoral cycle.
He noted that recent political developments underscore the need for a vibrant opposition capable of holding the ruling party accountable and offering Nigerians a clear alternative. “Democracy thrives when there is balance. The PDP will play its role by standing firm, speaking for the people and resisting any attempt to undermine democratic institutions,” he said.
The chieftain added that reconciliation efforts were ongoing within the party to address internal disagreements and bring aggrieved members back on board. He said unity within the PDP would be critical to building partnerships with like-minded political groups and civil society organisations ahead of 2027.
Reaffirming the party’s readiness for the polls, he called on supporters to remain steadfast, stressing that the PDP would continue to engage Nigerians on policies centered on good governance, economic recovery and national cohesion.
