12 local govts in Borno, Yobe still on zero-dose level of vaccination – UNICEF

The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has expressed worry over the zero level vaccination of children in the North-East.

 

The children’s charity noted that nearly two million children are out-of-school in the region while twelve local governments in Borno and Yobe States are at zero-dose levells in terms of vaccination.

 

The Maiduguri Field Office head of UNICEF, Joseph Senesie, disclosed at a Media Dialogue on Journalism Ethics and Child Rights Reporting holding in Damaturu, Yobe State.

 

Senesie said 32,215 children who had never been vaccinated (zero dose) have now been targeted and have received immunization.

 

“Similarly, 1.2 million children were immunized with the pentavalent vaccine while 1.6 million people were reached with the cholera vaccine in the region”, he stressed.

 

“As the fourth estate of the realm, UNICEF invites you to conduct independent reports on the successes and gaps to shape the national agenda and improve the wellbeing of children.
