The Centre for Public Accountability (CPA) has described the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) as a critical lifeline preventing the collapse of Nigeriaโ€™s public higher education system.
The group said TETFund interventions have played a major role in improving infrastructure, research, staff development, and learning conditions across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education nationwide.
According to the CPA, many public tertiary institutions would have suffered deeper decay without consistent support from the education intervention agency.
The organisation noted that TETFund-funded projects have contributed significantly to the construction of lecture halls, laboratories, hostels, libraries, and other essential facilities in schools across the country.
CPA also stressed the importance of sustaining and strengthening the fund to address persistent challenges facing Nigeriaโ€™s education sector, including poor infrastructure and inadequate research funding.
The group urged the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders to protect the integrity of TETFund and ensure transparent utilisation of intervention funds for educational development.
Education stakeholders have repeatedly described TETFund as one of the most impactful government initiatives supporting tertiary education in Nigeria.
The CPA further called for increased investment in education to improve academic standards, innovation, and the global competitiveness of Nigerian institutions.
